Stiffe Grotto

“Grotto” is “Cave” inItalian. The Stiffe Grotto is an easy day trip attraction that can be reached from most anywhere in Abruzzo in an hour and a half or less. The tour of the caves is guided, and is suitable for all ages. You will walk about a kilometer in a cool environment. There are a couple of stairs, but they are not dangerous or difficult to navigate. The actual tour length is a little over an hour. Official Site Link . You can make online reservations.

After touring the caves, you can find several nice local choices for dining on the map. If you are doing an afternoon tour, there is a very nice Enoteca Casale Liberati nearby where you can enjoy local wine and aperativo. For lunch you can find Trattoria Le Grotte or Al Chicchirichi. Agriturismo La Villa is nearby as well and would be a nice place to stop for children as they are a working farm.  If you have never gone to an Agriturismo before, I recommend doing so. The food will be prepared locally from local ingredients and you will be able to buy local products.  It is a normal custom to call ahead on the day to confirm they are open, and as a courtesy if you are more than just two people.  If your group is bigger than four, then you will want to make a reservation at least a day in advance

How to Get There
